Pikey peak is 4200m high from sea level. Pikey peak now can be trekked from new route. This route is short and sweet. After 7 hours drive from Kathmandu to Dhap, the trek starts on the second day. The road via khurkot, Okhaldunga to Salleri is smooth. Driving along the snakey road along the Sunkoshi river can be a bit daunting if you are not used to Nepalese highway!
As you approach Dhap, the altitude soars to 2500 meter. Drive up the windy road and after innumerable turning, the sight of Everest range that appears all of sudden is so stunning that you merely remember how long you have been driving.
Enjoy Local hospitality in Magar Hotel. The next day, hit the trail to Jhapre Buddhist Monastery hotel and stay with Lama homestay lodge. Taste the sherpa hospitality and their spiritual approach.
The trail now goes mostly along the alpine pasture line to Bhulbhule. The Shepherd lead their caravan to lower land after snow fall.
From Bhulbhule, walk along the forested trail which opens up to another pasture land. From here, the final climb is around 2 hours before we perch at a cozy tea house Peekey Shangrila lodge. Their warm dining hall is now something very precious to us. Dede is a great cook. He used to be a camping cook. So, the food served here is exceptionally good.
After resting one night, we are well acclimatized. Tie up your shoes to climb around 400m all the way to the Pikey Peak. The view from the top is astounding.
The Everest range with Nuptse, Lobuche, Lhotse and Numbur himal greet you right in front. If the sky is more blue, from this point, we can view Annapurna range on the left to Kanchenjunga all the way to your right. Edmund Hiilary is supposed to have said that this is his best view point to enjoy Himalayan range of Nepal.
After descend, treat yourself with breakfast then we continue walking to Charikharkha. The next day trip is by jeep to Kathmandu.
